There is something about warmer days and open windows that makes me want to sing at the top of my lungs. If you’ve been around here for any length of time, you know I love music and love playlists, and spring and summer are often the times when I begin making new playlists with fun, upbeat songs that pair perfectly with a backyard picnic or a day on the beach.
Songs on my summer playlists are often ones that are best played loud and proud, with accompanying vocal gymnastics. Here are 5 of my favorite summer songs:
“Love Me Again” by John Newman. This song has nothing to do with summer and has been out for years, but I never tire of it. It’s just a straight-up good time, and I love putting my own personal spin on John’s accent when I sing along.
“Give Me Some Lovin’” by The Spencer Davis Group. I like singing the backup vocals on this classic bop.
“Don’t You Worry About a Thing” by Stevie Wonder. There’s something about sunshine that makes me want to embrace a carefree mindset, and this song goes perfectly with that.
“Firework” by Katy Perry. What can I say? I love me some vintage Katy Perry.
“Pocketful of Sunshine” by Natasha Bedingfield. This song takes me right back to the year I got married (2007) because that’s when it came out, and I was OBSESSED. When I started running in 2009 this song appeared on many running playlists.
I made a playlist (shocking!) full of songs I plan to play on repeat this summer (some are new to me, some are classics), and the ones above are included. Enjoy!
Now it’s your turn: what songs do you love to play in the summer?
