I have been listening to a lot of podcasts recently after going through a bit of a dry spell, and I thought I’d make this edition of the Friday Five all about some of my recent favorite podcast episodes.
I don’t remember how I came across the Sold a Story podcast, but I was completely riveted by its exploration into the world of reading curriculum and the science of reading and how unsuccessful reading theories prevailed in schools for decades.
Vaneetha Risner is a writer I greatly admire who has written much about suffering well as a Christian, and she just released a new podcast to accompany her most recent work, a Bible study called Desperate for Hope: Questions We Ask God in Suffering, Loss, & Longing.
I listened with fascination to all of season 1 of The Dream podcast. It’s a deep-dive into MLMs. Episode 1 is here. I’m halfway through season 2, which is about the wellness industry. (There is some salty language in places.)
Russell Moore recently had actor Rainn Wilson on his podcast to talk about his views on spirituality and religion, and I was intrigued by the whole conversation.
The hosts of the Coffee + Crumbs podcast recently discussed hospitality, and I found it really encouraging and honest. They also referenced this hilarious YouTube video that had me giggling in recognition.
What have YOU listened to and loved lately?
I’ve been on a bit of an audiobook kick lately and I am listening to an incredible book right now -- one of those where you find excuses to run errands so you can listen to a few more chapters in the car. It is a book called “The Woods of Fannin County” and the author is Janisse Ray. It is about eight children who are abandoned in a shack in Georgia in the 1940s -- and how they survive, find food, etc. It’s sort of a darker version of “The Boxcar Children” (somehow still infused with hope and perseverance and beauty).
I loved the Dream podcast!! I forgot about that one!
